Greetings.

I heard you used to work on Iggy Arbuckle. I'm still a huge fan of the show, despite it no longer having episodes. I'm such a fan that I even made my own characters for it: [link]

You don't have to favorite it, but I was just trying to take my time to show it to you.

I realized I followed you on Twitter, but not here, and then decided that was a silly state of affairs! So I fixed it.

So I had some carreer doubts and I said to myself..... Why not ask your favorite comic writer/animator??
Do you think I have any chance of making it into the Animation life if I study Graphic Design while all my optional courses are "animation"? The reason is that in Mexico there doesnīt seem to be a future in animation and schools donīt support animation programs and I canīt afford to go overseas..... My future as an animator look pretty screwed right? D:

I wouldn't say that at all!

If you can't find the information you need at home the internet opens up a whole world of opportunities and ways to seek teachers or to self teach yourself. AND possibilities of working freelance jobs from anywhere in the world.

I would encourage you to check out Bobby Chiu's website [link] and watch the interviews with creative professionals, especially Dreamworks story artist Louise DelCarmen. Coming from the Philippines he speaks about not having the animation education and opportunities there he wanted which did lead him and his brother (Pixar story artist) to eventually go to the States for to work in feature film.

There's also an interview with Humberto Ramos, a comic artist working for DC from Mexico which may help inspire you!

There are a couple books which are helpful for sharpening your animation skills (I haven't animated in years but my fiance is an amazing animator and he loved these books) Eric Goldberg's "Animation Crash Course" [link] and Richard William's "Animators Survival Kit" [link]

In essence, you're not screwed. Your location may make things a bit harder for you than for some people who have easy access to that stuff, but if you have the passion and drive to pursue your dream, keep learning, to not be discouraged by set backs or failure but to LEARN from them, to keep moving forward... then there is always a way to make it work.

I've made a HUGE mistake in not watching you yet. I used to read Shrub Monkey on the website, then I lost track, then I found one I used to have printed on my wall (the adorable one with the huge winter coat and the snow man...) and I wondered where you were... Yay!
